My stock 95 GSR burns quite a lot of oil...when I change down a gear from high rpm a huge cloud of blue smoke puffs out of the exhaust. I had a compression test done by my local acura garage and all four cylinders were between 205 and 215. They also did a leakdown test and found nothing. I have had the valves adjusted and the PCV valve replaced. your seals are old, even if it holds compression now, a little boost will just help it go faster. if your compression test is good, rebuild your motor. rebuild not build will just give you a new oem spec motor. change all the gaskets, seals, oil pump, water pump, seals, oil sep ring, and most importantly, crank bearings.
I would have thought you can do a compression test on a cold engine, your just looking for all cylinders to be equal-ish, just make sure you have a very healthy battery to keep cranking speeds up. It’s usually a result of spark loss. Change plugs, properly gapped. Pre gapped isn’t gonna cut it. .020 usually works well past 25 pounds of boost. Other areas to look at would be to test and clean the MAF. If the car is speed density tuned (no maf), make sure the map sensor is good. Most importantly, get a compression test done.
So numbers do matter, also remember that a GSR and an LS motor have different compressions to begin with, so expect higher results from a GSR, about 240psi, I am not sure what the nominal PSI is for the GSR, but we have a scan from the service manual floating around. I put them on the tight side 4 on the intake and 8 on the exhuast. Test road it and it had lost a lot of power. Took it back to the shop and tore it down and run a compression test it had 145 to 160 with it hot. Put the valve back to the fat side 8 on the intake and 12 on the exhuast. Run a compression test on cold motor before i installed plugs.
